According to the website NavajoNationParks.org, “Currently, Filming Permits are not being issued at Lake Powell Navajo Tribal Park. When the Navajo Nation reopens at 100% we will decide if filming will resume. Sorry for the Inconvenience. Requests for commercial filming and photography in areas under the authority of the Navajo Parks and Recreation Department are received regularly. The purpose of these Commercial Filming and Photography Policy and Procedures is to establish guidelines to be followed in the application for, review, approval/disapproval, of commercial filming and photography permits. Navajo Parks and Recreation Department shall allow commercial filming and photography in tribal parks, recreation areas and monuments only in a manner consistent with these policies and procedures. **Lake Powell Navajo Tribal Park is not accepting any Photo/Film Permits during the Pandemic.”
It is unfortunate that the effects of COVID-19 are still being felt and we wish our friends who live and work in the area the best during these difficult times. We know that the virus has hit the community hard and we completely understand why they have decided to stop any filming from happening.
Although there are many beautiful locations in the Navajo Nation to film there are alternatives to commercial film projects that have a similar look and feel to them. We actually have many locations that have old western sets and props from film projects that took place around Kanab, UT.
